In the more than twenty-five years that I have been immersed in the worlds of entertainment and entertainment news, the stories I have been most drawn to have focused on celebrities and unsung heroes who are genuinely passionate about making a difference in the world. So among many other things, that’s what #LivingTheGoodLife and this space is about — exploring and expressing what motivates and captivates the human spirit. Good = Positive.
I am a true believer that the will to help others is contagious.
I spent a spectacular day with the incredible Beth Stern at one of New York City’s coolest hangouts, Meow Parlour on the Lower East Side. Beth is a rare individual. Those with generosity of spirit this great are members of a very, very small club. The old cliché, “she lights up a room when she walks in” doesn’t begin to do her justice. And with her ceaseless dedication to helping furry friends, Beth is most certainly Living the GOOD Life.
Beth’s tireless efforts on behalf of animal adoption and the North Shore Animal League take center stage on Super Bowl Sunday when she hosts Kitten Bowl III premiering at 12/11c on the Hallmark Channel. Please be sure to follow Beth on Twitter @BethStern and see her daily parade of cuteness on Instagram. Also be sure to check out North Shore Animal League.
Our special thanks to Meow Parlour, a truly unique and wonderful oasis in New York City where you can spend time enjoying the company of adoptable, free-roaming cats, perhaps while enjoying a tasty treat from their nearby Meow Parlour Patisserie. Please visit them at meowparlour.com and follow them on Twitter @MeowParlour
North Shore Animal League America is a pioneer in the no-kill movement, implementing a no-kill policy to ensure that the animals we rescue receive the care and support they need. We are the largest animal rescue and adoption organization in the world.
The Sterns have fostered and found incredible homes for over 130 cats and kittens. Beth’s husband Howard names all the foster cats. Even after adoption, Beth remembers the names of all the cats and kittens they have fostered.
A.J. discovered Meow Parlour because Beth had heard about it and was excited to see what it was all about. They both loved the space and the kind people, cats and kittens that warmly welcomed them. It’s a little bit of kitty zen.
At Meow Parlour they have adoptable free roaming cats. You can come for as little as half an hour so you can just pet the cats or stay for up to five hours and use their free wi-fi while a cat naps next to you. All the cats are adoptable. Meow Parlour has teamed up with KittyKind, an all volunteer, no kill rescue group located in NYC.
According to the ASPCA, approximately 2.7 million shelter animals are adopted each year (1.4 million dogs and 1.3 million cats) in the United States.
A.J. served as the host of HLN’s entertainment news show, Showbiz Tonight, throughout its entire, incredible nine-year run and has been the face of all things entertainment for CNN and HLN for the past decade as a trusted fixture in the entertainment industry. Beyond what he’s perhaps best known for, A.J. simply loves immersive story-telling in all kinds of situations and bringing everyone along for the ride.
A.J. began his career at WNBC Radio in New York City at the young age of fifteen and has covered all facets of the entertainment industry ever since.
A.J. joined HLN and CNN after hosting Court TV’s crime and justice entertainment show, Hollywood Heat. As one of VH1’s most recognizable personalities, A.J. hosted the network’s Top Ten Countdown and a variety of shows and specials, special events and live awards show coverage as well as a daily music and entertainment show. His radio career includes longtime stints at New York City’s Z100 and WPLJ as well as SiriusXM Satellite Radio. A.J. has also served as a special correspondent for EXTRA and as an entertainment correspondent for Good Day New York.
